Notes on the Emptying of a City, un performance de una película desmantelada, en la cual un narrador ensambla los sonidos, imagenes e historias de un documental frente a una audiencia en vivo. En el performance, una figura se sienta sola en un escritorio con un texto impreso y una laptop. Lo que inicialmente parece ser una palestra se convierte en la narración de una historia, un narrador recuenta sus experiencias como artista trabajando con un grupo de activistas por la justicia social tras el paso del Huracán Katrina en Nueva Orleans. Narrado sobre diapositivas de una architectura arruinada y vacía, reflexiona sobre sus múltiples papeles: testigo, audiencia, observador, interlocutor; sobre las marcas clasificadoras de policías y soldados; y sobre la prisión y la gente que la ciudad rehusa evacuar antes de la tormenta.
Ashley Hunt recents exhibitions include: P.S.1/MOMA, Project Row Houses, Documenta 12, the Nottingham Contemporary, the Gallery at REDCAT, Tate Modern and the 3rd Bucharest Biennial. He is an artist, activist and writer who engages the ideas of social movements, modes of learning and public discourse. His recent performance, Notes on the Emptying of a City, explores the first-person politics of being in New Orleans with a camera in the months following Hurricane Katrina, when he engaged with community activists to research the city’s refusal to evacuate the Orleans Parish Prison. Other works includeThe Corrections Documentary Project, the collaborative 9 Scripts from a Nation at War, and On Movement Thought and Politics, an ongoing collaboration with dance and performance artist Taisha Paggett.
